The products of our contract manufacturing clients represent a significant part of the production at our plants in Rajamäki and Tabasalu. These products range from wines to spirits, with various packaging and size options.
Altia produces wines and spirits under more than 800 brand names at its industry-leading alcoholic beverage plant in Rajamäki. With the exception of cognac, brandy and some speciality products, its own products are bottled at the Rajamäki plant. The plant has five lines for bottles and two for bag-in-box containers. Our comprehensive quality assurance system includes a broad range of samples, checks and measurements at different stages of production.
The Rajamäki plant has 240 employees. The production department works in three shifts. In 2015, the Rajamäki plant produced around 65 million litres of beverages. Of this total, wines represented around 20 million litres, mulled wines around 5 million litres and spirits around 40 million litres.
In addition to the Koskenkorva grain spirit, our production of spirits is based on clean groundwater. The groundwater in Rajamäki has been used for the production of beverages since 1888, when operations began in the Rajamäki plant area. Altia protects the quality of the groundwater in its nearby areas through land ownership and by restricting construction in the area and establishing conservation areas.
Altia’s role in wine production involves tasks related to processing wine. When we find a wine that is suitable for our product portfolio, we take care of its import and packaging for various markets. Altia processes wines in order to preserve their original characteristics. The Rajamäki plant has industry-leading wine processing lines: clean and efficient facilities with state-of-the-art technology.
Logistics is one of the core areas of our business operations. Altia has several logistics centres, and we also sell logistics services to our partners. By combining our own deliveries with those of our partners, we are able to achieve significant benefits of scale in logistics. Our logistics volume is around 150 million litres. The Rajamäki plant’s logistics centre handles logistics for Altia across Finland, along with storage and delivery services for Finlandia Vodka. The main delivery channels in Finland are Alko, contract manufacturing clients and Altia’s other logistics centres.
Altia’s Tabasalu plant is located around 15 kilometres from Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Its central location is important, particularly in terms of logistics. The Tabasalu plant has two efficient bottling lines for glass and PET bottles. Its flexible operations offer excellent opportunities for contract manufacturing clients.
The plant bottles beverages for the Baltic markets, for export within Altia and for other companies. The plant has around 50 employees. Its warehouse handles the distribution of Altia’s products in Estonia, including both imports and exports.
