Gluten-Free Barley Starch



Gluten-free barley starch lets the natural flavours of food and drink shine because it is clean, odourless and has a neutral taste.


Altia’s gluten-free barley starch is made from pure Finnish GMO-free barley, and we can trace the origin of every grain all the way to the field it was grown in. The farmers we work with grow the barley using environmentally friendly methods. The barley is grown and processed in accordance with good hygienic, ethical and environmental standards. Finnish barley is monitored throughout the production chain. The barley is grown near the production location. This shortens transportation distances, which reduces the environmental impact of gluten-free barley starch.

The gluten content of Altia’s gluten-free barley starch is less than 20 mg/kg, which is the limit set for a gluten-free product. Thanks to this, it can be used in gluten-free end products. Barley starch is not naturally gluten-free. The gluten is removed separately during the production process.

Gluten-free barley starch is a new Finnish product that makes it possible to develop new kinds of end products. In addition to the food industry, this product can also offer interesting opportunities to industries such as the cosmetics industry.
